OUR STORY

What’s our story? Audacity and an opportunity to showcase a different kind of film festival experience: catch a great film, meet and chat with some cool and talented people, grab some great food, go for a quick dip in the crystal blue water in the middle of the day, catch some more great films, create some synergies, and by ends day clamp on the white sandy beach and enjoy the perfect backdrop – a paradise par excellence. But really, who wouldn’t want to have that kind of experience?

The Cabo Verde International Film Festival (CVIFF) was launched in 2010 on the island of Sal with screenings and workshops taking place between Espargos and the ever-enchanted Santa Maria. With Cabo Verde being relatively new to the world of film production, launching an international film festival with a competition component was a challenge worth taking. The production of CVIFF was, and continues to be, inspired by the morabeza, the enchanted landscapes, and the electrifying no-stress vibe of Sal Island. Our mission is to bring together Art, Cinema and Industry, while presenting a bazaar of exceptional films and filmmakers. To date, we have received film entries from Cabo Verde, USA, Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, South Africa, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Palestine, Italy, Cuba, India, Spain, United Kingdom, Iran, and Switzerland. We’ve come a long way from the five films submitted in our first edition in 2010.

SAL ISLAND, TRAVEL & ACCOMMODATIONS, JUST FOR FUN

SAL ISLAND

The island of beautiful white sand beaches, warm clear waters and coral reefs. Sal Island offers unique conditions for water sports, from surfing, windsurfing, and kite surfing to scuba diving, fishing, and swimming. Despite its volcanic origin, the island is flat, resembling the lunar surface, and has a warm and dry tropical climate, allowing visitors to enjoy the beautiful beaches for 365 days a year. The island of Sal is the main tourist spot in the country, accounting for over 50 % of overnight stays in the archipelago. Visit the bay of Murdeira, Rabo de Junco, Baia Joaquim Pipit, Buracona, Ponta Preta, and the Cave of Love, among others. It is a must for anyone visiting this island. It has an international airport with links to the main islands.

TRAVEL & ACCOMMODATIONS

It helps to be in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and to host the Cabo Verde International Film Festival on the most tourist-bound island in the country. Cabo Verde is three hours from the African continent, the European continent and Brasil, and six hours from the Eastern Coast of the United States of America. Driven by high tourism demand, the island of Sal offers an array of accommodations. Contact us if you require assistance: participant@cviff.org
